New review for The Ultimate in Quality! by Gus Kim, and I think it’s going to be summer here in Columbus for another couple of hours, then back to winter. Three cheers for March!
Update for 3/9/09
March 9, 2009New review for A Grain of Salt by Lynn Lau, I’m back from my trip and I managed to get a decent pile of comics from Quimby’s. One little point I’d like to rant about, for those of you new to making mini comics: if you put out a book that’s a straight up black and white number (meaning no fancy covers, no color art at all), don’t charge more than $2 for it unless it’s giant. Seriously, I’m somebody who is trying to get as wide a range of artists up here as possible, but there were literally dozens of books I didn’t pick up because I was insulted by the price. Granted, the inside of the book may be the most brilliant thing in western literature, but I will never know that unless somebody sends me the book for free to review, and even then I’ll be compelled to mention the ridiculous cover price. The only people who are going to pay more than $2 for simple black and white minis are either independently wealthy or related to the author.
Update for 3/6/09
March 6, 2009New review for the somehow overlooked Reporter #1 by Dylan Williams, also available in the online store. I’m heading out for the weekend, so no updates until Monday at the earliest. I hate breaking that nice streak I had built up, but it can’t be helped. In the future when I go out of town if I have comics to review I can always do the reviews and have them posted automatically day by day (ain’t technology grand?), but at this point I’m essentially out of comics to talk about anyway. Happy weekend everybody!
Update for 3/5/09
March 5, 2009New review for Karl Kressbach’s Delusion Dispatch, available in the store with material that’s maybe a bit dated, but still funny.
Update for 3/4/09
March 4, 2009New review for The Herbivores #3 by James Stanton, and if anybody out there is annoyed at the same names popping up over and over again in the reviews, sending me your comics is a very easy solution…
Update for 3/3/09
March 3, 2009New review for Reader Copy by Tom Cherry, and that officially exhausts my pile of Tom Cherry comics.
Update for 3/2/09
March 2, 2009New review for Salvager Kain #4 by Paul Sloboda, and do I have enough comics to keep reviews current before I go away for the weekend? Stay tuned and see! Or, you know, come back in a week or so and check the old posts to see if I managed it. No suspense at all when it comes to the internet…
Update for 3/1/09
March 1, 2009New review for Time Warp Comix #1, edited by Dan Taylor and available in the store.
Update for 2/28/09
February 28, 2009New review for Slam Bang #1 Volume 3, edited by Allen Freeman, containing over 50 contributors and available in the Optical Sloth store. Two months down of constant reviews, huzzah! If I can manage to get to December with only a dozen or so missing days (a tall order, I know) I’m going to post enough to make it end up being one for each day. 365 reviews in a year would have to give me some kind of bragging rights, yeah? Who I would brag to is another question entirely…
Update for 2/27/09
February 27, 2009New review for Bog Wizards #2 by Rob Jackson, and the race is still on to see if I run out of comics before I head to Chicago next weekend.
Update for 2/26/09
February 26, 2009New review for the Tom Motley/Lonnie Allen flip book Aline the Alien/Wonder World, also available in the store.
Update for 2/25/09
February 25, 2009New review for Mishit #1 by Rafer Roberts, his collection of non-Plastic Farm comics. And this is a bit late but I thought I’d throw it out there: when comments were still on here, I would get hundreds a day of nonsensical porn spam. If you were one of the honest commenters who asked a question and wondered why I never got back to you, chances are I never saw your comment. Just sayin’.
Update for 2/24/09
February 24, 2009New review for Dirtbags, Mallchicks & Motorbikes by Dave Kiersh, and I should probably point out on the main page that’s it’s a graphic novel, with all new material, in full color.
Update for 2/23/09
February 23, 2009New review for Nibble #3 by Tom Cherry. So here’s the latest around here: I’m almost out of comics to review. Shocking, I know, but there it is. I’m heading to Chicago in two weeks and should be able to stock up a bit at Quimby’s, but I may have to stop this streak before then, probably around the start of next week. If anybody is willing to help plug that gap and/or actually enjoys my rambling being daily instead of a few times a week, well, that address over on the right is an excellent place to send your comics…
Update for 2/22/09
February 22, 2009New review for The Dream Project from Kelli Nelson, one more comic available in the online store that I somehow missed the first few dozen times through it.
Update for 2/21/09
February 21, 2009New review for The Herbivores #2 by James Stanton, because who doesn’t like stoned dinosaurs?
Update for 2/20/09
February 20, 2009New review for III: About Yr Future by Eve Englezos & Josh Moutray, another comic also available in the store here.
Update for 2/19/09
February 19, 2009New review for Dirty Beast #1 by Chris Getliffe, as even though the comics from this county are few and far between these days, I can count on folks overseas looking to get the word out about their books. Yes, that is my subtle way to work American cartoonists into a patriotic frenzy so that they’ll send me their books too.
Update for 2/18/09
February 18, 2009New review for The Cloud by Dan W. Taylor, another mini that’s available at the store. Remember the Optical Sloth store? That place with all the great minis, most for pretty cheap? Just checking…
