Update for 9/21/09

September 21, 2009

New review for Turtleneck Boy #3 by Suzanne Baumann and various folks.  The dream of SPX is fading fast for me (although there’s still time to order a pile of comics and send me on my way, hint hint), but if it doesn’t work out I’m going to spend the weekend reviewing as many books as I can that’ll be for sale at the show.  Meaning that if you’re going to be there selling your stuff, and you think maybe somebody will come to this measly website and stop by your table because they recognize your comic from this page, maybe you should send that new book to the address up there on your right.

Update for 9/20/09

September 20, 2009

New review for Kris’ (Lachowski) For The Hell Of It Mini Comic Collection.  Yes, technically this is a sample book, but this is what happens when the review pile gets thin.  Keep those orders coming, a trip to SPX is looking like a long shot, but buying some new comics is a good possibility.

Update for 9/19/09

September 19, 2009

New review for Ghost Comics, edited by Ed Choy Moorman and containing all sorts of people.  The fundraiser, meanwhile, keeps trickling along.  It ends on Thursday night, at which point I’ll quit bugging everybody about it and either order comics or get some travel plans in order.

Update for 9/18/09

September 18, 2009

New review for Un Petit Carnet II: Hiroshima, Miyagima & Saijo by Ryan Cecil Smith.  Still going with the fundraiser (this is probably getting almost as annoying as the NPR fundraisers by now, my apologies) and I am officially past the point of buying beer with the profits.  It’s either comics through the mail or a trip to SPX at this point, depending on how it goes from here…

Update for 9/17/09

September 17, 2009

New review for Crude Dude Comix #5 by Jose Angeles, and it’s written in cold medicine-o-rama!  My apologies.  Here’s my sales pitch for my current fundraiser, as it’s way down on the page by now.

I’ve decided to start an “official” fundraiser, or at least it’ll be as official as anything around here.  I need comics and don’t have much in the way of disposable income, so I’ve figured out a couple of solutions: either order more stuff from the internets or attend SPX in a couple of weeks.  Either one of those things takes money, driving to SPX would take a bit more money.  I’ll break it down for you, as it currently sits in my head.

$0 – Time to start reviewing my old Super Villain Team-Up pile

$1-10: Buy beer

$11-15: Buy slightly better beer

$16-150: Buy comics online

$151-infinity: Drive to SPX, either sleep in car or cheap hotel if the money I receive is closer to infinity.

Clearly, if you don’t want me drinking you might as well order more than $15 worth of comics all by yourself.  It’s been ages since I’ve been to a non-SPACE convention and would love to get to SPX, if it’s even remotely possible.  The convention is September 26 & 27, so this fundraiser will go a little less than two weeks (and I’ll post updates about it if the situation warrants it) starting… now!

Update for 9/16/09

September 16, 2009

I forgot all about Tempo Lush Tuesday this week (I was distracted by the shiny new comics from Emi Gennis), so the new review for today is Tempo Lush #6: The A-Z of Absolute Truth by Richy Chandler.  I’m also still keeping the fundraiser up until next weekend, hoping against reason to get enough cash to get to SPX.  Hey, you get comics, I get money, everybody wins!  Also, happy birthday Kathie!

Update for 9/15/09

September 15, 2009

New review for Spaz! #1 by Emi Gennis, as my request to get more minis in the mail clearly worked like a charm.  My fundraiser idea, on the other hand, is going nowhere at the moment.  Probably a bad idea to ask people to buy comics online right before a good chunk of you guys are going to SPX to buy comics from the actual artists.

Update for 9/14/09

September 14, 2009

New review for Almighty Then by Jason DeGroot & Adam Owen, and please scroll down to read about my probably hopeless fundraiser to get to SPX this year.

Update for 9/13/09

September 13, 2009

New review for King Cat #67 by John Porcellino (also available in the store) and Pale Fire by M.K. Reed.

Update for 9/12/09

September 12, 2009

New reviews for Debacle #5 by Barry Rodges (in keeping with my theme about comics for sale around these parts) and The 12 Hour Man #1 by Chris Anderson & Scott Longo.  You know, there are people who sent me comics for the online store that never sold a single one?  That baffles me.  Sure, I get not selling graphic novels, but back in the day I would get damned near everything that was right around the dollar price tag.  Don’t kids today understand a bargain?  I am old enough to qualify as a curmudgeon, right?

Update for 9/11/09

September 11, 2009

New review for Hoju #1 by Edgar Castro, also available in the fine online store at this website.  Speaking of that, as the recession is apparently over (for the rich people at least), why not spend some of your tiny disposable income on comics?  All sorts of good stuff in that store, including plenty that you’ve either never heard of or forgot about completely.  Won’t you buy some comics today?

Update for 9/10/09

September 10, 2009

New review for Just A Man by Brian John Mitchell & Andrew White, and I could really use more comics if anybody is out there looking for a small to moderate bit of exposure.  Isn’t SPX coming up soon?  If you already have your new comic done that you’re going to be releasing at the show, why not send me a copy for a little bit of early exposure?  OK, I’m practically begging here, but the comic pile is very low and I’m a bit broke at the moment.

Update for 9/9/09

September 9, 2009

New review for Sleeper Car by Theo Ellsworth, and that date seems oddly unique.  Then again, they’re all unique, so what do I know.

Update for 9/8/09

September 8, 2009

New review for Tempo Lush #5: My Half Term Holiday by Richy Chandler, and if you’re curious I did in fact have a good trip, and will start getting extra reviews up soon to make up for lost time.

Udpate for 9/4/09

September 4, 2009

New review for Midville High #3 by Matt Blair, and I’m taking the weekend off.  That’s right, after 9 months of being pretty faithful with my pledge to post daily, I’m leaving town for the weekend and just don’t have the time to do that many reviews before I leave.  Chances are I’ll make up for it with posting two a day at some point, assuming I keep getting minis to review in the mail (hint, hint), but for this weekend, there’ll be nothing to see here, move along.  Back on Tuesday!

Update for 9/3/09

September 3, 2009

New review for Laterborn #7 by Jason Martin, which is hot off the proverbial presses, for any of you who come here in the hopes of finding actual new releases.

Update for 9/2/09

September 2, 2009

New review for Vampires Need Love Too #3 by Brian Cattapan, the comic-making machine, and it’s also available in my store.  Speaking of that, did you know that you could rank the comics for sale out of a 5 star system?  If you particularly like some comics on that page (and how could you not, as the vast majority of them are amazing), you might want to bump up some of the ratings.  Some people are dragging some decent comics down, assuming anybody even pays attention to that sort of thing…

Update for 9/1/09

September 1, 2009

It’s Tempo Lush Tuesday (has a nice ring, doesn’t it?), so here’s a new review for the fourth issue of the set: Mish Mash Mosh.

Update for 8/31/09

August 31, 2009

New review for Xoc #1 by Matt Dembicki, and three cheers for him filling the great white shark void in mini comics.

Update for 8/30/09

August 30, 2009

New review for The Abstract Artist by Al “Owl” Newman, as “literal accuracy in titles” weekend continues.
