New review for Two Eyes of the Beautiful by Ryan Cecil Smith, and I don’t usually mention web comics around here because I prefer the paper ones, but Chris Anderson’s comic The Ego and the Squid kept me up much later than I wanted to be last night. Mostly hilarious, and they all have comments attached that include responses from Chris that usually makes them even funnier. And he does it every day!
Update for 8/20/09
August 20, 2009New review for Everything #2 by Chris Anderson & Mark Hensley, but if you’re as smart as you think you are you’ve already read it and don’t even need to read my review.
Update for 8/19/09
August 19, 2009New review for Battles of Paradise #1 by Jerell McFalls, wherein I try to impart some of my comics “wisdom” on the younger generation.

August 17, 2009New review for Left Handed Sophie #1 by Phonzie Davis, as I’m still not quite done with the pile from SPACE yet.
Havasy, Joe – Misanthropic Cavalcade #3
August 16, 2009Misanthropic Cavalcade #3
There must be something in the water down there in Athens, Georgia. Way too many of those people are way too good at this comics business. This is another collection of weekly strips from a local paper, and if these are the greatest hits it makes me wonder about the “crappy” ones, as these are 100% pure awesome. In here we get stories about closure after the end of a relationship, snail murder (probably not the way you think), a walk in the park, how girls are dumb, a conversation between ducks and a platypus, a young boy trying to train birds to clean his teeth, a cautionary tale of the sea, putting on the moves, insomnia, freezing up in front of the women folk, a new hat for a little girl, a romantic practical joke, and aliens. I could go on and on about how many times I laughed while reading this, but why bother when you could figure all this out for yourself? I went over to Joe’s website and he has (I counted) 161 strips up there for free, mostly in color, and mostly not the ones included in this collection. People who come to this site to find good places to kill time at work, take note. Also, I couldn’t decide on just one sample strip this time around, so I’m using two. Joe, if you would like to sue me, please note that I have no money to speak of. I’m offering as a settlement every comic I have with either Quasar or Namor in it. $3

August 14, 2009New review for Lost Kisses #10 by Brian John Mitchell, as it’s also time for your bi-weekly dose of that man. And if you wonder why you can’t get reviewed this often on this website: send me more comics!
Update for 8/13/09

Update for 8/11/09
August 11, 2009Well, blame Richy Chandler for me briefly changing how things are done around here. Richy, you see, has put out what looks to be a gorgeous mini comics box set, and I reviewed the first issue (Lucy the Octopus) today. With this many comics, however, I can’t really do what I usually do and wait until the author is off the main page before updating again. So until this set is done, I declare Tuesday as Richy Chandler day here at the Sloth. Hey, if you want similar treatment, make up a mini comics box and send one to me. I’m a sucker for those things…
Update for 8/10/09
August 10, 2009New review for The Manly Boys Annual by Gareth Brookes & Steven Tillotson, and I could almost do another U.K. week around here if a few more of them stepped up and sent me comics. Hell, I could do one a month with the productivity of some of those guys…
Update for 8/9/09
August 9, 2009New reviews for Amazing Adult Fantasy #21 by Tim Doyle and Eraser Dust #5 by R.C. Johnston. It turns out that TODAY is the 8th anniversary of the site. Um… huzzah! Thanks to everybody who has supported it over the years, either with free comics or with buying comics, or just the general well-wishers. I don’t always answer those e-mails because there’s nothing more awkward to me than responding to somebody saying how much they like the site, but I do read and appreciate them. Now, thanks to the old e-mail file of one Jason Dupuis (who is one of the few people besides me to have reviews up on this site), here is the original forward when I was getting things rolling. I didn’t keep up with the interviews, obviously, because it took a lot more time than you would think to do the research. I also changed the name of the site after a couple of lawyer friends informed me that Xerox could sue the bejesus out of me if they ever noticed my existence.
Chances are that you people don't know me, but if > you're getting this it's because I've been > reading your stuff for1-9 years now and you've done > wonders to shape my view of the world. I've > decided to open up a site, called Xerox Army, to try my best > to get everything small press together in one place so > it's easier for people to find. Getting all the > mini comics in the world together was my original goal, but > I've expanded it to include small press comics of all > shapes and sizes and a number of graphic novels. I > have an interview up with James Kochalka and plan on getting > another one up with different comic people every two > weeks. I don't have much technical skill going for > me, mostly all I have is a love of comics and a belief that > they should be seen by a lot more people. I explain > all these points a lot better on the website: www.xeroxarmy.com.  > Check it out, give me suggestions, tell me you think > it's terrible, whatever. But I'll need your > help to make it successful (no, I don't mean your money) > because I want as wide of a variety as possible, and > there's only so much stuff I know about on my own. > I want this to have everything under the sun that anybody > could possibly want and I think it's possible to do > that. I hope to hear from you soon with > recommendations of stuff that I should have on the > site. Thanks for your time and please, check out the > site: www.xeroxarmy.com. > I'll be updating it pretty much constantly. > Whitey
Update for 8/8/09
August 8, 2009New review for Folk #4 by Tyler Stafford, and it looks like it’s getting too hot to move around here. If only you had bought comics from my store you could have spent the day inside reading them!
Update for 8/7/09
August 7, 2009New review for Nine Gallons #1 by Susie Cagle, and I got the date wrong for the site anniversary: it’s August 9th. Oops. Big blowout on Sunday then!
Update for 8/6/09
August 6, 2009New review for Gulliver Brimstone by Scott Claringbold & Brian Typhair. I know, I missed a day yesterday. Should have had more ready to go after the election, but I’ll most likely make up for it over the weekend. And tomorrow, with no fanfare whatsoever, is the 8th anniversary of the launch of the site. With a different name, granted, but still, 8 years of this nonsense. If anybody is feeling especially nostalgic and/or wants to offer some form of congratulations/condolences, why not order some comics? You get the comics, I get some of the money. Everybody wins!
Update for 8/4/09
August 4, 2009New review for Big Funny, which is basically a newspaper full of comic strips. Yes, it’s the size of an actual newspaper, if not bigger. The planners seem to mostly be from Minnesota, the contributors seem to be from all over the place. Also, I’m writing this in the past, as it’s an election day, so if the sun has exploded or something, that’s why I haven’t commented on it.
Update for 8/3/09
August 3, 2009New review for Everything #1 by Chris Anderson & Mark Hensley, and one of those people is rapidly becoming a favorite of mine. No offense to the other guy, I just don’t know him very well…
Update for 8/2/09
August 2, 2009New review for XO #5 by Brian John Mitchell &Â Melissa Spence Gardner, all the way down at the bottom of Brian’s rapidly growing page.
