New review today for Bald Knob by Brett Hamil, as I’m finally digging more into the review comics that came in the mail this week.
Update for 11/25/24
November 25, 2024New review today for It’s Oola Too!! by Karl Christian Krumpholz. Technically this is a review for a comic he sent me in the mail, but if I’d returned to his table at Cartoon Crossroads when he was busy like I’d intended, this would be another CXC review. Just in case anybody is keeping track of these things…
Update for 11/20/24
November 20, 2024New review today for Clutter by Ariel Bordeaux, as I continue the seemingly eternal task of getting to the bottom of my pile of comics from Cartoon Crossroads this year.
Update for 11/18/24
November 18, 2024New review today for The Re-Up #5 by Chad Bilyeu and Juliette de Wit, can’t talk now, I’m on my lunch break.
Update for 11/14/24
November 14, 2024New review today for Fugue Omnibus by Beth Hetland, and if you’ve mailed me review comics over the last couple of months, yes, the Cartoon Crossroads pile is almost gone and I’ll be getting to your stuff soon. There aren’t enough hours in the fricking day…
Update for 11/12/24
November 12, 2024Boy, good thing I took the week off of reviewing for the election, huh? Good to see that America is delighted with an absolute, all-encompassing piece of shit as the head of state for the next four years. I’m thinking maybe it’s time that I diverted some of the energy I put into political things and move it into the comics things I’m doing here, but I’ve had big ideas in that area that have fizzled out before. If I don’t run out of steam, stay tuned, I’ll be trying some new things soon. In the meantime, the review today is for OKCryptid by Matt MacFarland.
Update for 10/31/24
October 31, 2024Oh look at that, it’s Halloween. I should have picked a spooky comic to review, huh? Well, instead of that, you’re getting So Buttons #14 by Jonathan Baylis and friends. Maybe I’ll review something spooky for Thanksgiving instead…
Update for 10/29/24
October 29, 2024New review today for the triumphant return of The Audra Show (#6) by Audra Stang! As you can tell from the previous sentence, I am very unbiased about this comic.
Update for10/25/24
October 25, 2024New review today for the triumphant return of Sugar Booger (#4) by Kevin Scalzo! Also with the election season heating up, is this the end of reviews for awhile? I sure hope not, and I’m going to try to sneak them in when I can, but we’ll see how it goes. I do want to mention that there’s a new issue of So Buttons out by Jonathan Baylis, which I’ll get to soon, but I’m mentioning it here as more of a general announcement. Happy weekend y’all!
Update for 10/23/24
October 23, 2024New review today for bird comic. by Ruby Carter, and I also had a chance to talk to her publishers at CXC. They’re called Fieldmouse Press, they have many intriguing comics already available, and they have big plans on putting together a complete collection of Ariel Bordeaux’s work, among other things. Support them while buying yourself some quality comics, OK?
Update for 10/21/24
October 21, 2024Hey Champaign Illinois people, there are now 12 early voting locations open around the county! Other Illinois people, check your local County Clerk to find your options. Other states, good luck. Speaking of voting, the new review today is for You Win… When You Vote! by Resistbot. It’s actually made by a person, but they didn’t put their name in the comic, and I wanted to talk about voting today, so here we are.
Update for 10/17/24
October 17, 2024No time to chat, I’m writing this quickly over a lunch break. Why yes, it is the busy season, why do you ask? New review today for Bedhead by Presley Taylen!
Update for 10/11/24
October 11, 2024New review today for Gullet by Ernie Roan, and this concludes the first of probably many weeks of reviews from CXC. Hey, I’m back in Illinois, maybe I can finally start hitting CAKE again. Too many quality conventions!
Update for 10/9/24
October 9, 2024New review today for The Re-Up #4 by Chad Bilyeu & Juliette de Wit, and that series is moving right along, so you’ll be seeing a few more reviews of it here before this convention reviewing business is through for the year.
Update for 10/7/24
October 7, 2024New review today for Baggage by Violet Kitchen, and you’d better believe that this week is all about Cartoon Crossroads comics. Oddly, I’ve also been getting a lot of comics in the mail lately, which normally take precedence as far as reviews go, but, you know… convention.
Update for 10/3/24
October 3, 2024New review today for Sucker by Mary Shyne, and why yes, I am actually going to make a serious effort to get through my CXC review pile this month, or at least put a big dent in it. Too busy with work, schmoo busy with work, that’s what I say!
Update for 10/2/24
October 2, 2024Boy did I ever get a lot of comics at CXC this year. You’ll be reading about them soon, but it’s also crazy busy season at work, so please, as always, bear with me. To a few people at CXC that I planned to go back and visit because their table was busy when I came by, my apologies for forgetting to do that. Hi Karl Christian Krumpholz and MS Harkness! Maybe next year. New review today for Bunworld #1 by Maggie Umber!
Update for 9/26/24
September 26, 2024New review for King Cat #83 by John Porcellino, which is a fine comic to review right before Cartoon Crossroads, I think. Say hi if you see me wandering around the show, or at one of the talks (I’m definitely going to make Art Spiegelman’s on Friday night, Kate Beaton’s earlier in the day if I can get to town in time). I’ll be the blond guy with glasses who looks like he lives in Ohio but has actually recently moved to Illinois.
Update for 9/24/24
September 24, 2024New review today for The Flaming Skull of Death by Chris Auman, and yes, I am reviewing more than one comic this week. But not many more! Luckily I’ll be heading to CXC in Columbus this weekend, so I’ll have more comics than I have time to talk about very soon.
Update for 9/19/24
September 19, 2024Didn’t I just apologize last week for the lack of reviews? Well, consider this a repeat. I’m going to unearth the comics I still had left to review (that’s right, they’re in one of the still unopened boxes from the move) and get a few together for next week. Oh, and there’s a new review today for the last of the mini kus pile, On the Honeylands of Mars by Matti Hagelberg. Also it looks like the kus folks are going to be at Cartoon Crossroads in Columbus next weekend, which I’m seemingly going to be able to attend even though I live in Illinois now. Go to the convention, it’s free!
