Update for 1/22/11

January 22, 2011

New review for Losers Weepers #1 by J.T. Yost, also newly available in the online store. Yeah, maybe it would be easier to just list them all in the store and be done with it, but I’m enjoying reading them all first, so I’ll stick with that strategy, thank you very much. That offer I made for a free piece of artwork to the first person who tests the new store is still open, by the way. By “testing the new store” I mean ordering at least one of the newly listed comics, and by “artwork” I do not mean something done by me, just one of the many random drawings I get with review copies or on envelopes containing the review copies. I’ll give you a few options of artists once you order the comics and you can pick your favorite. It’s a steal!

Update for 1/21/11

January 21, 2011

New review for Death Deals by Eamon Espey, happy weekend everybody, I’ll have more stuff for the store up over the weekend if all goes well and this scanner keeps clinging to life.

Update for 1/20/11

January 20, 2011

New review for Tales of Good Ol’ Snoop Doggy Dogg by J.T. Yost, and it’s also newly available in the online store. You’ll be seeing J.T.’s name up here quite a bit in the next few weeks, as the store is finally working again, so don’t be alarmed, although I don’t know why you would be, as J.T. seems like a perfectly nice young man.

Update for 1/19/11

January 19, 2011

New review for Attic by Whit Taylor, and my scanner seems to be having fits, so don’t be shocked if I miss more days. I’m trying to work with it, as it seems to involve a complicated process of several computer restarts to get it going, but if I can’t make it work for a bit I certainly can’t afford to get a new one for at least a month. Hey, there are still comics out there that have sample images at the creator’s sites, so maybe I can still make it work. Ah, rambling, so refreshing in the afternoon…

Update for 1/17/11

January 17, 2011

New review for Panel #13: Superstition by various Columbus Ohio folks. They sent along a few of them this time that I somehow missed at the conventions (probably because I have a nasty habit of showing up late and then rushing around frantically), so I’ll make the promise now that they’ll all be reviewed by SPACE 2011, which is March 19th and 20th.

“Update” for 1/15/11

January 15, 2011

No new review today, but I did post Old Man Winter and Other Sordid Tales by J.T. Yost up in the online store, which I think deserves a day all to itself.  Several more comics are coming from that man and many other people in the coming weeks, so the first person who orders one of the new books (to test whether or not the store still works, which I’m almost positive it does) will get some original piece of artwork that I have laying around as a bonus. So you may want to wait a bit until you have more options, or you may want to order this one just to nab that free goodie. The choice is yours!

Update for 1/14/11

January 14, 2011

New review for Thom Ferrier is a Lover of the Great Outdoors by Thom Ferrier. He also sent along a longer comic, but it’s Friday, I’m in a rush and I’ll get to it in a few weeks when I have the time to properly review it.  As for the weekend, I’m going to try and get a few new things listed in the store and maybe a review too.  Just in case anybody was going to be stopping by.  Happy weekend!

Update for 1/12/11

January 12, 2011

New review for Only Skin #6 by Sean Ford, which all the cool kids are already reading, so I just wanted to mention it in case you didn’t know the latest issue was out or something.

Update for 1/11/11

January 11, 2011

Top Shelf Tuesday returns!  Here’s a ridiculously long review of Alec: The Years Have Pants by Eddie Campbell.

Update for 1/11/11

January 10, 2011

New review for Lisbon by Simon M.  The coming weeks should see the addition of all kinds of new books in the online store, provided that it really is fixed and I’m able to add things without it breaking again, so there’s that to look forward to. Unless you hate new small press comics, in which case you seem to have stumbled into the wrong site.

Update for 1/9/11

January 9, 2011

New review for Billy: Demon Slayer Series 2 #5 by Hayden Fryer. See, I did manage to get a weekend update together, even if I had to practically wrestle my scanner to get it to cooperate.

Update for 1/7/11

January 7, 2011

New review for Silent V #3 by Kyle Baddeley, and I can’t think of a better way to close out the week. That being said, I’ll probably do at least one review over the weekend, and one of my resolutions this year was to only say that when I meant it, so please feel free to call me out if I don’t come through on that sort of thing.

Update for 1/6/11

January 6, 2011

New review for Chickenbot’s Odd Jobs #3: The Chicken Who Loved Me Part 1 by Eric H. I’m debating putting together some kind of actual reviewing schedule instead of my usual “grab from the pile of review comics” method. Any thoughts? Is the chaotic nature of the reviews (when I’m not doing theme days or weeks, that is) a good thing, or would you all just as soon have some structure?

Update for 1/5/11

January 5, 2011

New review for The Fifty Flip Experiment #14 by Dan Hill, in a heartwarming “local boy makes good” story.  Well, he’s local right now because we both seem to live in the general Champaign-Urbana area, and he’s “made good” because I like his comics, not in the traditional “gets rich” meaning of the phrase, just to be perfectly clear…

Update for 1/4/11

January 4, 2011

Yes, I took an extra long break or, more accurately, two breaks. All done now, and I’m all set to go for the new year today.  No Top Shelf Tuesday today, as I’m slowly making my way through The Years Have Pants but I have no interest in rushing it. New review today for The Neighbor by Desmond Reed.

Update for 12/29/10

December 29, 2010

New review for To Share is to Divide by Nick Soucek.  You may have noticed that I’ve been absent a lot lately, which is because I didn’t get back to the family until Christmas Day and due to the generally lazy feel of the holiday week.  I’ll probably keep it up, frankly, until next Monday, with chances of other reviews being thrown in here and there.  Don’t hold your breath though, as I kind of want to recharge for the new year.  I’ll have plenty of new comics to add to the store, many many reviews I need to get to, and there’s still that gigantic Alex book I hope to get to next Tuesday.  Plenty to discuss in the new year, in other words, but I may be mostly absent here until then.  If that’s how if plays out, enjoy the holiday, or don’t, depending on your preference.

Update for 12/23/10

December 23, 2010

New review for X-Mas Afro by Tom Cherry, as I couldn’t resist the holiday theme even though I would have a very easy time resisting the holiday itself.  This will most likely be it for me for a few days, barring a sudden blizzard or something. Have a happy whatever you’re doing over the weekend!

Update for 12/22/10

December 22, 2010

New review for Beloved by E.S. Fletschinger. Sorry about missing Top Shelf Tuesday yesterday, but the only book I have left from them is the gargantuan Alec collection from Eddie Campbell and, even though I’ve read most of it in various other forms over the years, I didn’t want to rush through it.  Maybe next week or, holidays being what they are, maybe the week after that.  I can already tell you that you should use your Christmas money to buy a copy, if you’re curious.

Update for 12/20/10

December 20, 2010

New review for Drinking at the Movies by Julia Wertz, and I do have a few more international books but this one is due back at the library soon and it was too good not to review.  Um, not to give away my opinion or anything…

Update for 12/19/10

December 19, 2010

New review for Kus! #8 by various international artists, but for the purpose of this international week I’ll point out that a good chunk of them are from Latvia.
