Oh no! Is he really going to do more weekly reviews of the same title? Yeah, I’m afraid so. I’m locked into Cat by Brandon Berry, so I’m reviewing #2 this week. But don’t fret too much, as he only sent along 4 issues. So far, anyway…
Update for 1/16/23
January 16, 2023New review today for a new issue of Sludgy by Robb Mirsky! It’s a mini comic, so it’s listed as #4.5. Please shelve it accordingly.
Update for 1/12/23
January 12, 2023New review today for Hey Cat Volume 3: The Return of the Fleas by Nacho Nova. That’s the end of cat week, at least until the next time I happen to open more than one envelope with a cat comic in it. It’s the kind of thing to make me scrap any other plans, honestly…
Update for 1/10/23
January 10, 2023Sorry about the review gap, holidays followed by bronchitis are lousy on motivation. New review today for Cat #1 by Brandon Berry, as unintentional cat week begins! Hey, I opened up two envelopes and they both had cat comics in them. What am I supposed to do, ignore that obvious sign from the universe?
Update for 12/28/22
December 28, 2022It’s the holiday taint week! Nobody has any motivation at all this week, but I got an advance copy of Rob Kirby’s new book Marry Me a Little and I just couldn’t resist talking about it. Could this be the last review of the year? Eh, maybe, we’ll see. Suspense!
Update for 12/23/22
December 23, 2022New review today for Edie Blenkinsop’s War by Rob Jackson, which somehow fell out of the review pile and I only rediscovered today. Which is odd, as I’m always curious to see what he comes up with next. Anyway, happy holidays everybody!
Update for 12/21/22
December 21, 2022New review today for Town & County #2 by Alex Nall, who makes me wonder if I could also pull off a mustache. Completely unrelated to his comic!
Update for 12/19/22
December 19, 2022Well, so much for that “I’ll just write reviews during the week in real time” idea, huh? That’s what I get for making promises about reviews. New review today for The Way of the Hive by Jay Hosler, which some of you old timers may remember as Clan Apis, but in gorgeous full color this time around.
Update for 12/12/22
December 12, 2022Optical Sloth behind the scenes: I’ve probably mentioned this before, but for the past few years I tend to write the reviews on the weekend, then just schedule them to post during the week. Well, this weekend was stupid busy, but I made a promise last week to review comics this week, so: live reviews! Boy oh boy is that meaningless to everybody but me. I also have no idea how many days I’ll be able to do this, and I already know that tomorrow is out. Still, new review today for So Buttons #12 by Jonathan Baylis (and friends)!
Update for 12/8/22
December 8, 2022New review today for Tortilla #7 by Jaime Crespo, and I hereby solemnly swear that I’ll put out a few reviews next week to start to make up for lost time.
Update for 12/6/22
December 6, 2022Sorry about yet another gap in reviews last week, but these elections are taking more and more out of me lately. Where’s a benevolent (but hand’s off) billionaire backer when I need one? Anyway, there’s a new review today for Zombie’s First Time by Brandon Lehmann.
Update for 11/23/22
November 23, 2022New review today for Forget Me Not by Gabriel Howell! Quick note for anybody who has tried to email me over the last several months: unless you were very creative in your subject line, maybe send it again? I’ll be changing my email soon, but meanwhile I’m cleaning out the old one, and boy howdy is it ever overrun with spam. What could any one man do with that many ball bearing, I ask you?
Update for 11/21/22
November 21, 2022Back from my work break, just in time for a holiday week. New review today for Applewood Canyon #6-8 from Brian Canini, and yes, that means that I’m reviewing some books in chunks now. Progress?
Update for 11/3/22
November 3, 2022New review today for Wrestling and Mania Part Two by Andrew Neal, which concludes my brief return to the world of weekly reviews of the Meeting Comics series. That’s it for me for a week or so (depending on what happens at work), so dig through the archives for a bit, and vote!
Update for 11/1/22
November 1, 2022New review today for Dodo Comics #7 by Grant Thomas, and this will almost certainly be the last week of comics reviewing until after the upcoming election. If you live in a state where you can, vote early already. And if you’re a woman who’s still biologically able to have children, or if you know anybody like that, for the love of all that’s good in the world, vote for Democrats down the line. Or if you like state mandated pregnancies forced to be carried to term, don’t vote at all and please fuck off from this website forever. Thanks bye!
Update for 10/27/22
October 27, 2022New review today for It’s Oola! by Karl Christian Krumpholz, meaning that CXC week is now two weeks long. It’ll end up being longer too, before it’s all said and done. What can I say, I’m terrible at math.
Update for 10/25/22
October 25, 2022New review today for Wrestling and Mania Part One by Andrew Neal, so it’s technically still reviews from the CXC show a couple of weeks back. Nope, work hasn’t swallowed me up yet!
Update for 10/21/22
October 21, 2022New review today for Bird With Tits by Max Schaller! Public service announcement: regular readers of the website know that reviews tend to get a little scarce around here in the Fall of even numbered years, what with my job working in elections in Ohio and all. I’ll get some reviews in when I can, but it may be even more haphazard than usual for a few weeks. Also early voting has already started, so why don’t you do that in your area today?
Update for 10/19/22
October 19, 2022New review for a returning star to the website: Caitlin Cass! I reviewed Postal Constituent: Zitkala-Sa/Gertrude Simmons Bonnin. Any errors in the order of the words or the actual title come from me alone.
Update for 10/17/22
October 17, 2022It’s CXC week at the website! Which should have happened last week, but things got out of hand in real life, so here it is. New review today for Lamp Quest by James Spencer!
