{"id":8315,"date":"2010-04-22T12:21:01","date_gmt":"2010-04-22T17:21:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/?p=8315"},"modified":"2010-03-24T13:26:29","modified_gmt":"2010-03-24T18:26:29","slug":"bennett-marek-lets-make-it-readable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/?p=8315","title":{"rendered":"Bennett, Marek &#8211; Let&#8217;s Make It Readable!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.marekbennett.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Website<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/readable1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"readable1\" src=\"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/readable1.jpg\" alt=\"readable1\" width=\"244\" height=\"310\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Let&#8217;s Make It Readable!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s another in Marek&#8217;s series of minis dealing with the grunt work  of making comics, this time trying to get people to understand the  aesthetics of text.\u00c2\u00a0 Granted, it doesn&#8217;t seem like this would be an  issue for people who are already making their own comics, but you&#8217;d be  surprised how much stuff I see where some crucial chunks of dialogue are  just unreadable.\u00c2\u00a0 This comics shows Reed and Bill&#8230; OK, that&#8217;s just a  terrible pun.\u00c2\u00a0 Still, for the sake of the meaning behind this comic,  I&#8217;ll soldier on.\u00c2\u00a0 Reed has all the useful answers, Bill shows how not to  do everything.\u00c2\u00a0 Marek makes some good points here: to write the words  before drawing the word balloon, to make sure of placement of the word  balloons to have any given panel make sense, to step back and read your  work from a distance to make sure it&#8217;s all legible, and to have someone  proofread your work before inking.\u00c2\u00a0 Marek won me over instantly with  that panel, as easily corrected spelling errors are one of my biggest  pet peeves.\u00c2\u00a0 Granted, comic artists don&#8217;t have the spell check that I do  when writing these reviews, but most of them do have friends, or they  could post a few pages on their websites to get rid of at least the most  glaring spelling mistakes.\u00c2\u00a0 This is another good contribution to this  particular series of minis, and Marek should thinking about putting all  of these together when he&#8217;s done, as they&#8217;d make a decent &#8220;how-to&#8221; book  for beginners.\u00c2\u00a0 And, frankly, some people who should already know  better.\u00c2\u00a0 Marek was also nice enough to send me a gigantic collection of  his strips, so look for that in the coming weeks.\u00c2\u00a0 I have a sneaking  suspicion that this may all be too much cute for a giant book, but I&#8217;d  be happy to be proven wrong.\u00c2\u00a0 No price, let&#8217;s call it $1<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/readable2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"readable2\" src=\"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/05\/readable2.jpg\" alt=\"readable2\" width=\"323\" height=\"413\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Website Let&#8217;s Make It Readable!
