{"id":17045,"date":"2010-08-20T15:15:47","date_gmt":"2010-08-20T20:15:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/?p=17045"},"modified":"2010-08-20T15:15:47","modified_gmt":"2010-08-20T20:15:47","slug":"hatcher-gill-go-wildlife","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/?p=17045","title":{"rendered":"Hatcher, Gill &#8211; Go Wildlife!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/gillhatcher.carbonmade.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Website<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/gowildlife1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-17046\" title=\"gowildlife1\" src=\"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/gowildlife1-195x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"195\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/gowildlife1-195x300.jpg 195w, https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/gowildlife1-665x1024.jpg 665w, https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/gowildlife1.jpg 1880w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 195px) 100vw, 195px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Go Wildlife!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m a big fans of comics as entertainment, obviously, but I&#8217;m an even bigger fan of entertaining comics that also teach me something.\u00c2\u00a0 This comic taught me plenty and was funny throughout, so I&#8217;d call that an unqualified success.\u00c2\u00a0 Some of the best stories were done as two page spreads, otherwise picking the sample page out would have been a lot tougher.\u00c2\u00a0 This is, as you probably guessed from that exuberant cover, a series of stories about animals.\u00c2\u00a0 There are pieces about the junglefowl (a skinnier ancestor to chickens), pet robber crab (the largest land-living anthropod, and it turns out they&#8217;re strong enough to de-husk and open coconuts), puffin (and how they can carry so much fish in the corners of their beaks), kakapo (and how it was brought to Codfish Island), great auk (and the stupid, stupid manner in which they were driven extinct), red kite (and their propensity to steal clothes hanging outside), and moray firth bottlenose dolphin (and the theory that they may be able to actually transmit images to each other).\u00c2\u00a0 Other, less fact-based pieces include an ongoing story of see otter revenge against humans (primarily for the Exxon Valdez mess), a series of rhymes for a series of animals, and a rather stupid lion.\u00c2\u00a0 Gill also listed a series of sources for her facts, as this is clearly a subject she loves.\u00c2\u00a0 I thought it was a fantastic comic and here&#8217;s hoping she makes a bunch more of these things, as there sure are a lot more animals out there that don&#8217;t get nearly enough attention&#8230; $4ish<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/gowildlife2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-17047\" title=\"gowildlife2\" src=\"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/gowildlife2-197x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"197\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/gowildlife2-197x300.jpg 197w, https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/gowildlife2-672x1024.jpg 672w, https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/gowildlife2.jpg 1844w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 197px) 100vw, 197px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Website Go Wildlife!
