{"id":11659,"date":"2010-04-26T13:27:09","date_gmt":"2010-04-26T18:27:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/?p=11659"},"modified":"2010-04-04T14:21:33","modified_gmt":"2010-04-04T19:21:33","slug":"rodges-barry-debacle-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/?p=11659","title":{"rendered":"Rodges, Barry &#8211; Debacle #2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theiwerkscommemorativedinner.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Website<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/debacle21.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"252\" height=\"296\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Debacle #2<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/?page_id=3417&amp;category=2&amp;product_id=286\" target=\"_blank\">Now Available!<\/a> $1 (<a href=\"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/?page_id=3417&amp;category=2&amp;product_id=291\" target=\"_blank\">or $6 for #1-6<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been &#8220;time capsule&#8221; month around the old Sloth, as I&#8217;m killing time until SPACE by filling in holes in the online store.\u00c2\u00a0 It turns out that this has been a good thing, as there are plenty more holes than I thought when I started all this.\u00c2\u00a0 Barry sent this collection of books along probably in 2005 (it&#8217;s 2009 now, future readers), and I only managed to review two books in this series?\u00c2\u00a0 Shameful.\u00c2\u00a0 There are three comics in this one, and two of them, if I were a lazier man, could be summed up with &#8220;I don&#8217;t get it&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 First up is Pencil &amp; Me, the story of a pencil and an, um, round-headed thing, as they decide to dress up and pretend to be beating each other up in various places.\u00c2\u00a0 They do this until a bystander gets the drop on them and teaches them a valuable lesson.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m telling the whole story here (or at least most of it) because things breaks down a bit after that.\u00c2\u00a0 Fonetik Funnees is just what it sounds like, a strip told phonetically, and I hate to admit this but I JUST got the punchline as I looked at it again.\u00c2\u00a0 OK, it&#8217;s funny, and it was amusing to see everything spelled out phonetically for a one page strip.\u00c2\u00a0 Any longer than that and I probably would have gotten a headache.\u00c2\u00a0 Last up is Gunter and Tad, as we follow two creatures shopping and using what seems like random words in odd places to carry on their conversation.\u00c2\u00a0 I like to think I know a variety of big words, but Barry stumped me on this one.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;m probably just missing this point, and that certainly wouldn&#8217;t be the first time.\u00c2\u00a0 So all in all this issue is just OK.\u00c2\u00a0 Lucky for Barry and the rest of the comics reading world that he got significantly better after this, as you can tell from checking out reviews for his other, more recent work.\u00c2\u00a0 This whole series is still worth checking out if you like his stuff, but if you just need an introduction you might want to start further down the page and work your way up.\u00c2\u00a0 $1<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/opticalsloth.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/images\/debacle22.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"\" width=\"361\" height=\"488\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Website Debacle #2 Now Available!
